Van de Ven suffers injury after lengthy VAR delay, raising concerns about player safety
The PFA is concerned that extended VAR checks will result in more player injuries. Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven is facing a prolonged period on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury following a seven-minute delay in play during Monday’s match against Chelsea.
The stoppages due to VAR calls and other reasons resulted in van de Ven cooling down and then having to sprint suddenly, leading to his injury. PFA chief executive Maheta Molango expressed concern for player welfare and the impact of VAR on the game, suggesting the need for a group of experts to provide data on the performance side.
The PFA is also critical of the decisions made by those who are not directly involved in football, causing frustration and a lack of entertainment for fans. There is a call for change and a focus on the quality of the game rather than just the effective playing time.
