Philadelphia Union re-sign Alejandro Bedoya to player and front office deal extension
The Philadelphia Union made a significant move by signing veteran midfielder Alejandro Bedoya to a new contract and expanding his role within the organization. In addition to his on-field duties, Bedoya will also take on the title of player development and front office specialist, showcasing his leadership and work ethic that are vital components to the team’s success.
Having spent his entire MLS career with Philadelphia, Bedoya has proven his loyalty and commitment to the team. With an impressive record of 22 goals and 33 assists in 214 MLS matches, his contributions on and off the field have been invaluable. Sporting director Ernst Tanner expressed confidence in Bedoya’s ability to excel in his new roles, citing his passion, commitment, and insights gained from serving in unofficial business and leadership capacities over the years.
Bedoya himself expressed his dedication to the organization, referring to Philadelphia as his home and the Union as his club. Having played internationally as well, with 66 caps for the U.S. men’s national team and notable appearances at the 2014 World Cup and Concacaf Gold Cup, Bedoya brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his expanded role within the Union.
Overall, the Union’s decision to offer Bedoya a new contract and amplify his responsibilities demonstrates their recognition of his impact and their belief in his potential to contribute to the team’s continued success. With a successful 2024 campaign on the horizon, Bedoya’s contributions as a developmental mentor and front office specialist are poised to benefit the overall organization, making this a significant and strategic move for the Philadelphia Union.
