Newcastle Star’s Ugly Challenge Elicits Strong Criticism from Arsenal Legend Ian Wright, Accuses Him of Malicious Intent

Ian Wright criticized Bruno Guimaraes for attempting to harm Jorginho during Newcastle’s contentious 1-0 victory over Arsenal, The incident in question occurred in the 45th minute when Guimaraes forcefully struck Jorginho with his forearm.

Despite the seemingly deliberate nature of the act, referee Stuart Attwell and VAR Andy Madley opted not to punish Guimaraes, much to the anger of Wright and other pundits.

They all condemned Guimaraes’ behavior, stating that he was fortunate to escape punishment and suggesting that his intention was to cause harm to Jorginho.

The sentiments expressed by Wright were echoed by Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, who described Guimaraes as “lucky”. Newcastle legend Alan Shearer also implied that Guimaraes had gotten away with a reckless act.

In addition to the incident involving Jorginho, Guimaraes also escaped a yellow card for shoving Declan Rice and was only cautioned in the 88th minute for swiping at Fabio Vieira.

The match was marred by controversy, with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressing his frustration and disappointment with what he considered to be questionable decisions.

Furthermore, Guimaraes and Joe Willock, another Newcastle player, were subjected to racist abuse on social media after the match, prompting condemnation from both Newcastle and Kick It Out.
