Injury forces Haaland to sit out Norway’s match against Scotland

Erling Haaland, the Manchester City striker and Norway’s top scorer in the European Championship qualifiers, will miss Norway’s final qualifier against Scotland due to a foot injury sustained during a friendly match against Faroe Islands. While the injury is not considered serious, it has caused Haaland significant pain and limited function, prompting the team doctor to advise against his participation in the upcoming match.

This news will also be of concern to Manchester City, as Haaland’s fitness will be closely monitored ahead of their top-of-the-table clash against Liverpool after the international break. Haaland currently leads the Premier League in scoring with 13 goals, making his availability for the highly-anticipated match a point of interest for both club and country.

Norway, currently third in their group, have already been eliminated from direct qualification for Euro 2024, with Spain and Scotland securing the top two spots. However, they still have the opportunity to qualify through the playoffs. In Haaland’s absence, head coach Stale Solbakken has expressed confidence in the attacking players within the squad, viewing it as a chance for others to step up in Haaland’s place.
Norway’s Erling Haaland will unfortunately miss their final European Championship qualifier against Scotland due to a foot injury sustained during a friendly match against the Faroe Islands, as confirmed by the team’s doctor on Saturday.

The Manchester City striker, who was able to complete the friendly match despite the injury, will be unable to participate in the upcoming important fixture. In a statement, team doctor Ola Sand mentioned that while the injury is not severe, the pain and limited function prevent Haaland from competing in the game against Scotland.

Despite already being unable to secure a spot in the top two alongside Spain and Scotland, Norway still has a chance to qualify for Euro 2024 through the playoffs.

With Haaland leading Norway’s goal scoring in the qualifiers, head coach Stale Solbakken has decided not to bring in a replacement for the injured striker, demonstrating faith in the attacking players within the squad.

Sitting at the top of the Premier League scoring charts, Haaland’s fitness will be of utmost importance for Pep Guardiola’s side.
