“The story isn’t what some people believe”.. Firmino reveals how Salah wore his shirt at Liverpool
Roberto Firmino, the current Al Ahli striker and former Liverpool player, revealed that he did not allow Egyptian Mohamed Salah to wear his shirt for the Reds, as many believed.
Salah, Firmino, and Sadio Mane formed a terrifying attacking trio from 2017 until the departure of the Senegalese star in 2022, and then the Brazilian joined him the following year.
Salah joined Liverpool in 2017 from Roma, and he got the number 11 shirt, which Firmino used to wear, while the Brazilian striker has worn the number 9 shirt since then.
Reports in the British press at the time suggested that Firmino allowed Salah to wear his shirt, but it seems that the true story is different.
Firmino said in his book, which excerpts were published by The Guardian, “I have to clarify something: some people praised me and said that I allowed Mohamed Salah to wear the number 11 shirt when he joined Liverpool, but the truth is simply that I wanted to change shirts and wear the number 9.”
The Al Ahli striker added, “Wearing the number 9 shirt at Liverpool is not a small matter. It is a historical shirt worn by legends, and although I had never worn this number before, I felt that the moment had come to wear it.”
Firmino was able to wear the number 9 shirt at Liverpool after Christian Benteke’s departure, who also wore the same number.
Firmino currently wears the number 10 shirt for Al Ahli, but he is not having the best of times.
Firmino scored 3 hat-tricks against Al-Hazm in his first match in the Saudi league this season.
But the Brazilian striker failed to score in the following 13 matches in all competitions, turning into a substitute player in favor of Faris Al-Breikan.
