Possible competitor to Al-Ahli.. Saudi reports reveal an agreement between Ittihad Jeddah and Lopetegui
Saudi media reports revealed on Friday evening that Al-Ittihad Club in Jeddah has reached an agreement with the Spanish Julen Lopetegui to lead the team, replacing the Portuguese Nuno Santo.
Al-Ittihad Jeddah had decided to sack Nuno Santo a few days ago due to poor results.
The Saudi newspaper “Al-Riyadh” reported that Al-Ittihad Club has reached an agreement with Julen Lopetegui to lead the team for the remainder of the season and the Club World Cup, replacing the sacked Nuno Santo.
It added that the official signing between the two parties is still pending after discussing the terms of the contract and reaching an agreement.
Al-Ittihad Saudi will face Auckland City of New Zealand on December 12 in the preliminary round of the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup. If they pass this obstacle, they will face Al-Ahly, the champion of the African Champions League, in the second round.
Lopetegui has previously coached several clubs such as Real Madrid, Wolverhampton, Valencia, and Porto, in addition to leading the Spanish national team in a previous period.
